The Map of the Analogous City

This map helps to understand the Analogous City, the collage created by Aldo Rossi, Eraldo Consolascio, Bruno Reichlin, and Fabio Reinhart for the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 1976.

The map is the result of a collaboration with EPFL Archizoom. It is an open-access digital publication, freely available on Infoscience, but it is also avaialble as a folded paper map on Amazon and at the EPFL Shop.

The map invites to discover the references that influenced Rossi and his friends. In addition, the map is distributed with an app developed for smartphones and tablets. The app makes use of augmented realiy by adding a virtual layer place on any copy of the Analogous City. The app is free and downloadable for Android and iOS.

The work has been displayed at the Bonnefanten in Maastricht, the EPFL in Lausanne, the GAMeC in Bergamo, and the Triennale of Milan. Soon it will be part of the Aldo Rossi’s exhibition at MAXXI in Rome, scheduled for March 2021.

Among peers and friends that contributed to the work, special thanks go to Fabio Reinhart who enriched the map with two major texts on Analogous City at 40 years from its creation.
